Aly Raisman born as Alexandra Rose Raisman (May 25, 1994) is an American gymnast and a three-time Olympic gold medalist. She was born in Needham, Massachusetts. Her parents are Lynn and Rick Raisman, they are super supportive. Aly’s three younger siblings are Brett, Chloe, and Madison. Raisman belongs to a Jewish family. She started her gymnastic training from the early age of 18 months. Her motivation was “magnificent seven” a gold-medal winning U.S women’s team at the 1996 summer Olympics. 

Apart from being a successful athlete Raisman also tried her luck in the glamour world. She took part in season 16 of a U.S. TV series named “Dancing with the Stars” and finished in fourth place. Recently Aly has done a cameo in the music video of “girls like you” recorded by the American band Maroon 5. In November 2017, Aly Raisman raised her voice against her former Olympic team physician Larry Nassar for being sexually abused. She came forward with lots of other victims and stated that she was being abused from the age of 15. Larry Nassar was sentenced with 40 to 175 years in prison for sexually abusing minors by the Ingham County Circuit Court on January 24, 2018. Raisman lodged a case against USA Gymnastics and the USOC. She stated about both the organization that “knew or should have known” about the sexual assault that was going on.

On May 16, 2018, Raisman and other survivors of USA gymnastics sexual abuse scandal were announced to be awarded Arthur Ashe Courage Award.

Aly Raisman took part in #me too movement in America. According to news site OZY “Aly Raisman is the #me too movement hero that American sports needed”.

On a popular talk show when she asked about the #me too movement she stated that “I think the most important thing for me and for hopefully everyone else, is taking it day by day.” She continued by saying “It’s easy to focus on the negative because it is so scary and frustrating to think of how many people are in pain and how many abusers get away with horrible crimes. But I think it’s important to take a step back and focus on how far we have come as a culture.”
